Receiving music therapy in an individual session with our music therapist can occur in a facility, school, private home, or clinic space. Our first session will be an exploration of making music together, discussing your hopes for music therapy, and if music therapy may be beneficial for the client, creating an initial framework for working together. Subsequent sessions will be based on the treatment plan that is agreed upon together. We check-in regularly to ensure the goals for therapy remain appropriate and progress is being made. Goals are updated periodically or as needed.
In group music therapy, the music becomes a primary focal point for interacting and responding in the moment. We practice developing social skills and self expression opportunities, offer encouragement to others, and celebrate our successes in making music together. An individual’s goals can be addressed within the context of the group, as each group member can be encouraged to participate in a way to addresses such goals. Insight, self-awareness, and developing coping skills are regular goals for group music therapy, and these can be applied to a variety of clinical populations who share something in common.
